Rosalie Weiss- Week 11- E.T. Adventure

The REAL ET Adventure at Universal Studios - YouTube

E.T. Adventure is the oldest operating ride at Universal Studios Florida, being the only ride left from the parks opening day on June 7, 1990. Despite its age, this ride still holds up, and is my favorite ride at Universal. Its use of animatronics and real sets is extremely refreshing next to many modern rides, which rely more heavily on screens.

In the ride’s pre-show, Stephen Spielberg informs riders that E.T.’s home planet, the Green Planet, is dying, and that we must bring him home so he can heal it. After Spielberg’s spiel, we get our interplanetary passports, and are then led into the ride’s indoor queue. The queue is made to look like a spooky dark forest, with trees, rocks, and a loop of forest sounds under the ride's theme music. This room, and the ride as a whole, have this specific ambiance that makes it my favorite place to be in the whole park. The ride also has such a distinct, almost melancholic smell, reminiscent to that of a rainy day, but in a good way. The ride itself is a dark ride, taking you and E.T. from Earth to the Green Planet. Once you successfully arrive at the Green Planet, you meet all of E.T.’s friends who thank you for bringing him home to save their planet.

The ride is less scary than I remember, but it does get fast for a second if you are sitting in the front row. Even though it is not as thrilling as Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, this ride is always a good time, and I definitely recommend that you check it out the next time you are in the parks.

Have you ever been on this ride? If so, what did you think of it?

  1. I haven't been on this ride, but I do love rollercoasters and would definitely want to check it out that next time I'm at Universal Studios. I honestly didn't know that this ride was there until the last visit to Universal with the school, but I didn't get to go.
