Atara Berkower - week 11 - Life during the height of Covid

Life during the height of Covid

Exactly two years ago today, we were at the start of quarantine. We all thought the Corona virus started in China from a man who ate “bat soup”. We still do not fully know how the Corona virus started, although the world has suffered from it for over two years. For the first four months of the pandemic, most people locked themselves up and did not live life. With the ability to shut off school with the click of a button, online school was not beneficial. We spent all day drinking whipped coffee, watching Outer Banks and All American, and working out with Chloe Ting. We had almost no social interactions.

One of my most memorable memories was when I went biking with one of my friends. My friend accidentally tapped my shoulder, and after freaking out that I got the virus, I ran home to shower quickly. I felt guilty that I would get my family sick because someone lightly tapped my shoulder. This story will always stick with me because it describes how we live our lives.

We were all so excited when school shut down for two weeks, although after two months we were sick of it. We lived in fear for two years and could not live life to the best of our ability. The economy suffered greatly along with thousands of people losing their jobs.

After two years of living in fear, it is time to go back to reality and live life as we wished. At a certain point, we were fined hundreds of dollars for walking outside without a mask. It is crazy to think that we lived in so much fear that we were scared to leave our beds.

It is time to start showing the younger generation what life is really like. Many children spent most of their childhoods at home and believe the normal to be wearing masks in public, social distancing from all people, getting temperature checked everywhere they go, and doing all of their activities in their home.

It is time to go back to what life was like before Covid existed. Do you agree?

  1. I definitely miss life before COVID and I feel terrible for the children who don't know anything other than living with masks and social distancing, however, unfortunately, a virus can't just vanish overnight. I think that the world needs to slowly start moving on from the last two years, but it is not going to occur overnight.

  2. I wish we were back how life how before covid, but to be honest its starting to feel back like it was before and I totally forgot about covid. Ever since 2019 and covid though, the world started to go downhill.
