Water park? Disney guests swim in flooded Magic Kingdom streets

On March 7, 2022, flash flooding left guests at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida, walking through ankle-high waters. Many park-goers posted videos on social media showing the flooded streets of Disney Hollywood Studios and Epcot. While many guests were seen heading towards an exit, some videos show other guests enjoying the weather. These guests can be seen playing in the park’s flooded streets and lying in the water.

On Monday night, a flood advisory was issued for the area by The National Weather Service. They estimated that the area received around 4-5 inches of rainfall. A Disney cast member told a BBC weather host that he hadn't seen anything like this in 17 years. The flood was somewhat good news for locals as concerns have recently been raised about this area, and other areas in Central Florida, officially entering a drought. Several areas in Central Florida have been labeled as “abnormally dry” by the U.S Department of Agriculture, and drier weather in this area raises the chances for wildfires.

As someone who loves the rain, this sounds super fun. I have experienced two significant floods in my life, and while I may have enjoyed them, they did some damage to structures and other things of the sort. I'm interested to see how this flooding affects the rides, attractions, and near-future of the park. Because floods can take as long as weeks to clear up, I wonder how Disney will handle it.

What do you think? Does this sound fun or scary to you?

  1. I think in the moment it can seem fun, but I would not want to be the person having to deal with the effects of the flood, especially in a place like Disneyworld.
