Noah Bard - Week 10: Airplanes vs Car rides

When traveling, there are many different modes of transportation that people can use in order to efficiently travel from one place to another. However, two of the most popular options for traveling is to travel by plane or by car. Each of these has its own advantage and disadvantage, and that is what I will be comparing today.

First off, airplanes are much more expensive. It is simply the truth that in order to fly on an airplane, you are going to be paying big money, especially if you are going to want to have a special seat on the plane. Cars are much more affordable (maybe not as much today because of the crazy gas prices). For a plane ride, for a trip for a family of five, let’s say, you are going to be paying hundreds of dollars per ticket. Compare that to a car, and you are going to save a lot of money, as one car can drive many people at once while maximizing fuel efficiency.

Airplanes are much faster than cars. However, they aren’t always the most practical. For example, you aren’t going to fly to the grocery store. Airplanes are reserved for long trips and long trips only. Cars are much more versatile, and can be used for everything, but will take much, much longer for long trips.

As for safety, planes win. Car crashes happen much more often than plane crashes, making it safer to fly than to drive. Also, flying on a plane for long periods of time is arguably more comfortable than battling motion sickness while sitting through grueling road trips in a car.

Though each one has its own advantage and disadvantage, cars and planes are each appropriate for certain situations, and to me, this is the beauty of living in modern society. We have options to maximize travel efficiency to best fit our needs, and in my opinion, this is incredible.

What do you prefer? Airplanes or car rides?

Comments

  1. I do not go on planes that often, due to the high price, and trips I go on take place in the car unless the journey is implausible by ground. However, besides the price, plane rides are far superior. They are faster, safer, and are a much more enjoyable experience. Personally, I tend to get carsick, and going on planes negates this nuisance.
