Maya Garaway Week 17: How to Make Ink (kind of)
How to Make Ink (kind of)
Let's continue my blog post art theme! My latest challenge has been ink making. I tend to have a hard time throwing things away if they have an emotional value to me, as I am sure many people can relate to that. My problem is I gain emotional value so quickly to the point that I have an Encanto Happy Meal Toy in my car because someone who I care about saved it for me. So, you could see my dilemma when my flowers started to die. I tried to brainstorm ideas of what to do and then I got the inspiration to *attempt* to make ink.
It is relatively simple to make. You just need flowers, a bowl, something to grind the flowers with, and boiling water. Sounds easy! First, I took the flowers I wanted to use and placed all of their petals in a pile. Then, I started grinding some of them up and would gradually add more petals. This part takes a lot of time and patience and I highly recommend putting on the TV in the background while grinding up the flowers. Once all of the petals are grounded, you have to boil water and pour just enough of the water into the bowl to cover the petals. After that you just wait for a day! Then you have ink!
I made a mistake though while making the ink. I accidentally got distracted and left the petals a bit longer than a day (it was a week). Although I did not get the pretty reddish-pink color I was aiming for, I was still able to save some of a dark reddish-brown colored ink. Hopefully it will still work well!
Do you ever struggle with getting rid of items? Have you done any projects recently?
I do struggle sometimes to get rid of items that I have got from people that mean alot to me and that i've had since I was younger, so I understand. I have not done any projects with them yet though.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I sometimes struggle to get rid of items that I have either had for a really long time or that have some sort of emotional value to me. For example, when I was younger, I had this Webkinz stuffed animal dog that I loved so much that even after my dog bit off her eye, I wouldn't throw her out. Finally, after a few years, I decided it was time to get rid of her. However, even though I did get rid of her, I told my mom that the only way she would leave was if we donated her. I haven't done any projects with any of the items I haven't wanted to get rid of.
