Liam Meldung, Week 19 - Missing the Play!
I still can’t believe that the play is over. We worked so hard for months to make it what it was and it was done after only being performed for two nights. It was such a fun few months, although stressful at times, we all had such a great time working together and making it what it turned out to be.
I was the stage manager, which means my best friend Ms. Lang and I were in charge of everything that had to do with the crew and more. I worked on lighting for the play, I helped with getting the set in order, I was the puppeteer for the plants, big and small, I helped with props, and so much more. I remember some days being really stressed out, but now I realize how much I enjoyed every bit of it, including the stress inducing moments. I got to work with everyone I love to get this play to work out and make it as best we could with what we had.
The play was supposed to start out as a reader’s theater. This means that everyone involved would pretty much sit on stage look at each other and say their lines. We did have the songs, but no dancing, no props, no set, nothing. It was going to be so bad. We ended up pushing ourselves to try and get this play to happen, like an actual musical is supposed to be, not readers theater. So we all worked our butt’s off to get everything prepared in time. This play was especially stressful because we had so much to get done and only around three months to prepare it all. We spent every day at rehearsals until late working on it. We spent our Sunday’s working on it. Everyone put in everything they had.
I am so proud of all of us, cast and crew, and I miss everyone and can’t wait to do it all over again with next year's play. Hopefully we’ll have more time to work together and enjoy ourselves.
Did you go see Donna Klein’s production of Little Shop of Horrors? Did you like it if you did?
I really wanted to be an usher and see the play, but I had my wisdom teeth removed that weekend, so I couldn't. I heard it was amazing, well done to you guys for working so hard on it! I remember feeling stressed, yet still loving being in Matilda in ninth grade.
ReplyDeleteEvery year since I have been in 7th or 8th grade, I have participated in the play as a member of crew. As you know, I was a part of the crew this year and because of that I guess I could say that I sort of saw the play. I got to see the play during rehearsals but didn't exactly get to see it during the time there was an actual audience. I think it was so incredible how the actors, crew and everyone involved in the production were able to pull off such an amazing show in such a short amount of time and I can't wait to see what next year's play is going to look like!
