Hannah Shinder: Week 7- Calvin Ridley suspended for 2022 season

    NFL player Calvin Ridley who played for the Atlanta Falcons was suspended indefinitely for gambling on NFL games during the 2021 football season. Ridley played college football at Alabama and was drafted by the Falcons in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. 

The gambling incident occurred in November of 2021 when he was on the non-football illness list and was not on the NFL premises or watch. After finding out, the administration league did a further investigation to make sure that no games were unfair or affected by this gambling issue. 

    According to a CBS report, the letter to Ridley said, "There is nothing more fundamental to the NFL's success - and to the reputation of everyone associated with our league - than upholding the integrity of the game. This is the responsibility of every player, coach, owner, game official, and anyone else employed in the league. Your actions put the integrity of the game at risk, threatened to damage public confidence in professional football, and potentially undermined the reputations of your fellow players throughout the NFL." His response was: "I bet 1500 total I don't have a gambling problem." Just by the response, you can understand the type of character and person Ridley is, as he most like only cares about himself and always feels as if he doesn’t make many mistakes. The earliest that Ridley can be reinstated is February 15, 2023, the league said. This shows that even the most professional and well-known individuals can do one thing that can cost them and suspend them from doing what they love most.

As I’m sure most of you know, I am very organized and like to plan out everything. When things don’t go according to the plan, it stresses me out.       Thursday morning, I assumed I would have an easy experience flying from PBI to JFK on JetBlue airlines.
