Atara Berkower - Week 9 - Miami overcrowded on Spring Break
Miami becomes dangerous over Spring Break
This past week was spring break for almost every college and high school around the country. All of the out of towners came to vacation in Florida, particularly Miami. Miami Beach was so overcrowded, there was no parking available anywhere and the traffic was insane. It became so dangerous in Miami that there were 2 shootings, injuring multiple people. City Manager Alina Hudak put into effect “A midnight curfew” starting Thursday and ending at 6 a.m. March 28. This curfew was put in place to prevent people from getting hurt from the crime that happens in the middle of the night.
People keep coming to Florida to vacation here because of the cheap airfare, lack of social distancing, the mask restrictions lifted, and for the best beach weather. With all the college kids on breaking out extremely late, a curfew was put into place to keep them safe from the crime that unfortunately happens in the vacation spots. Breaking the curfew would lead to large fines and arrests. There were two random shootings in Miami Beach this past week for no reason. 5 bystanders of the shootings are now hospitalized and severely injured. 3 people were injured from a shooting on Sunday on Ocean Drive near 8th Street. The other two were injured after hearing gunshots around 1 am on Monday.
People are taking advantage of overcrowded areas and are using guns to harm others. Nobody should be injured by a careless person using their gun in the wrong situations. Hopefully, many people learn from this and this does not happen again.
Were you guys affected by families and college kids in town for Spring Break?
It's so scary how people randomly go to these overcrowded areas and start shooting. I can't imagine having fun on spring break and going to Miami and next thing I know, some person starts shooting their gun. Personally, I wasn't affected by families and colleges kids in town for spring break but, all the beaches from Red Reef, to Spanish River and down to Delray were filled with people.
ReplyDeleteThis is very scary, and the crowd needs to be controlled more. I was not affected directly by spring breakers, but it has definitely been more crowded here lately.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so funny how Florida is like this intermediary place where people come just for a couple weeks or months until they go back to their home states, i.e. snow birds, spring breakers, etc. Oh America's armpit.
