Atara Berkower - Week 10 - My cooking experience
My cooking experience
This week, I have decided to cook dinner with my younger sister for my family. On Sunday night, I decided to make chicken stir-fry. I began by chopping up broccoli, peppers, and onions. After cutting the vegetables, I sauteed them until they were soft. Since I already had leftover white rice in the fridge from China Bistro and leftover grilled chicken that my mom made for Shabbat dinner, I did not have to do much more to make the delicious dish. After the vegetables were softened, I added the cold rice to the pan. I softened the white rice on the stove by mixing soy sauce and spices with the vegetables and rice mixture. After the base was ready, I added two scrambled eggs which cooked really well into the hot rice. Lastly, I cut the grilled chicken up and added it to the fried rice mixture. I left the stir fry in the pan for an additional five minutes and then served it. My family enjoyed my creation and was surprised by how well it came out from a person who has never cooked before.
The following day, I made green beans, salad, and omelets. I made the green beans by cooking them with olive oil, fresh garlic, and red pepper. The green beans came out really well and only took ten minutes to cook. The salad was really easy to make because I had washed kale and cabbage in the fridge which I mixed together and added a Vinaigrette dressing. Lastly, I made the omelets by sauteeing peppers, spinach, and onions, then added two eggs. Overall, I had a good experience cooking and was surprised by how good the food came out.
After two days straight of cooking dinner, I got tired of cooking food for myself. I got lazy last night and decided to order sushi.
When I have the time to cook, I will definitely do it again. What is your favorite dish to cook? Do you prefer to order food or cook it yourself?
