Ariella Green Week 19: What do we need most in this world?
This week, I had no idea what to write about. I stumbled upon this question in the topic ideas and I had a lot to say about this. I assume that when people read this question they immediately think of food, water, or family. Those are some good and essential responses, but I believe what is even more important to have is hope. Hope is what drives us to keep going when times are not going as planned or expected.
The first thing that came to mind after reading this question was the autobiography Elie Wiesel wrote titled Night. Wiesel shares that what kept his relative Stein alive was the hope that his wife and family were alive. After finding out about the news of his family, Stein died. Elie assumes it is because it is too painful to live in a world without his loved ones. Up until that point, Stein was able to preserve his humanity in one of the most inhumane places of all time.
It can seem hard or nearly impossible at times to persevere in life, but if you have the right mindset you will have the power to overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
I think what is also most important in the world is some form of love whether it is parental, platonic, or romantic. Everyone needs and deserves one person in the world that loves them unconditionally. Otherwise, it can get very lonely, making life very hard.
I think I understand what you are saying that we need hope, but I don't think we need it just that it can be useful. Sometimes it's okay for people to just wander through life without a goal or passion or anything that they really are desperate for. And, in those times, you don't really need hope to live, you just kind of do. But most of the time I would agree that it is important.
ReplyDeleteIf one has nothing to live for, are they really living or just doing? What kind of life is spent just being and doing?
