Adi Chaham week 17- Children
Do you ever miss being a child? Your biggest worry is if you’ll be able to finish watching your episode of The Backyardigans before your parents tell you to go to bed and your biggest concern is when your parents will come home because you miss them after their one night out?
Tonight, I was babysitting a five year old child. I've been babysitting this kid for quite a while now, and today was the first time I saw him cry. To be honest, it was a bit of a shock. After watching tv, playing legos, and eating dinner, I told him that it was time to go to bed.
He started crying.
The boy said he missed his mom.
This got me remembering when I was his age and I would cry because I would miss my parents too. So I told the boy “ya know, I miss my parents too”. As expected, that didn’t help. As a matter of fact, he cried even more as he continuasly said “I miss my mom”. Trying to comfort him I said “ya know your mom misses you too and when she comes home she and your dad always gives you a big hug and a kiss and they tell me how much they missed you ''. The boy smiled, but not for long. Two seconds later he was crying again. Now obviously, he was very tired by now, it was way past his bedtime. I then proceeded to ask him if he wanted to talk to his mom and he said “no'' and began to cry louder. This went on for about 5 minutes. Until I asked, “do you want me to bring a blanket and a pillow”? and in a crying voice he answered, “yes”. Within 5 minutes he was fast asleep. It was great. And that's now. Right now, I am writing this as he is sleeping on the sofa right next to me because he didn’t want to sleep in his bed.
Anyways, back to the point of this blog.
Sometimes, I miss being a child. I miss my biggest worries. I miss having “such a hard life”. I miss not worrying about everything and living life without thinking about other people's judgments. I miss having no homework. Sometimes, I even miss when my parents drive me around. I honestly think we are growing up way too fast. Next thing you know, we're in college and then we have our own families.
It's crazy how time flies.
What do you miss about being a child?
I agree, I miss have no responsibilities as a child, I also miss having nothin g to worry or get anxious about and wouldn't care what other people think or say. But, there are some things I like from being at the age we are at.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I miss being a child too. I miss not having to worry about managing my own life. Parents do almost everything for their children, so like you said, children's biggest worry is if they will be able to finish watching their tv episode. I think that children also view the world in a more positive and innocent light than teenagers and adults do, I miss that.
ReplyDeleteI miss being a child because I did not have any worries or obligations. I also miss no homework and no responsibilities as well, but I do like the fact that I am able to do things on my own, like driving.
