Rosalie Weiss- Week 3- U.S. Covid Deaths Reach Over 900,000

As of Friday, February 4, 2022, the number of Covid deaths in the U.S. has reached over 900,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. There have been over 76 million cases of the virus reported in the U.S. since the beginning of the pandemic, and more than one in five people in America have had Covid-19. The U.S. is currently reporting over 2,300 new Covid related deaths every day.
Many experts believe that the death toll of Covid is higher than this number, as the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that the number of Covid deaths was 32% higher than reported in February 2020 and September 2021. According to the CDC, there have been over 1 million Covid related deaths in the U.S. since February 1, 2020. Infectious disease epidemiologist David Dowdy explained that many of these deaths may not be attributed directly to Covid 19, but were a result of proper care being inaccessible during the pandemic. Dowdy stated that he thinks “it's fair to say that over 1 million Americans would still be alive today if not for the pandemic." The U.S. has reported over 15% of the world Covid related deaths.
It is very sad to think of all the lives lost because of the virus. I hope that everyone currently infected with Covid gets well soon and that the deaths and cases go down.
What do you think about this? Do you think things will get better soon?
