My First SAT
On the Saturday of March 12, 2022, I will be taking my first SAT. To say I'm nervous is an understatement, but I still have about a month left, so in that time I'll hopefully get my nervousness out. For the past two weeks and the next three weeks, I have and will be continuing to study for the standardized exam. I have two tutors from Milestone College Prep; one for the English portion of the exam, and one for the Math portion of the Exam. But to be honest, the SAT is a stupid scam. Even my tutors themselves have admitted it to me. My English tutor, Catalina, straight up told me that the SAT doesn't test memory or critical thinking skills, but instead, the ability to test-taking. So what's the way to prepare for the test? Purchasing the SAT booklet on College Board and practicing the exam itself. And the thing is, the SAT is required for so many colleges, and almost all here in the state of Florida. So it's basically a pay-to-win system, and that paying goes straight to the creators of the standardized exam: the College Board.
Anyways, as I said, I will be taking my first SAT on March 12. Hopefully, all of my preparation will go to use when I'm taking the test. I think I'm getting the mindset down too, and it's one full of anger and competitiveness. I feel like I'm competing against the other SAT test-takers for better scores, and that helps me study and try much harder. I also feel angry toward the College Board for even making this exam, so I feel like I need to be extremely triumphant on the test in order to "prove a point"; whatever that point may be. I'm not sure why, but that's just how I feel. I don't feel confident nor ready for the test just yet, but I have six more tutoring lessons and a couple of practice tests before I get to tackle the real deal.
So what do you think about the SAT? Is it just a dumb scam, or an important test? And how do you prepare for stressful situations, preferably with a deadline?
I took my SAT in December, don't worry, it's less scary in person! I don't like the SAT, though. I hope it goes well for you!
ReplyDeleteI honestly think the SAT is so stupid. We should not be measured and tested on a test score that does not reflect our actual educational knowledge at all. I think that all standardized testing should be stopped. It stresses out teenagers way too much and honestly I think it is pretty unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteI took the ACT instead of the SAT, but I also agree that it is a scam. it does not measure how smart you are, and is unfair to those who can not afford tutors and other materials to prepare.
ReplyDeleteThe standardized tests are a scam because they do not test you on all of your skills and knowledge. They do not test you on your fine arts abilities, your abilities in science or history, among many other subject matters. In your future career, you may not even need to know all of the answers to the types of questions on the SAT or ACT.
ReplyDeleteI think the SAT is stupid. It is a waste of time just like the ACT. It should not count for colleges; it just adds stress, and is honestly useless. It's such a scam and is super unfair to juniors and some seniors who try so hard to do well, but just can't and that affects the colleges they get into. When I prepare for the ACT I study as much as I can, especially the things I know I don't know, and then two days before the exam I try to keep calm and enjoy myself. This means study less, sleep more, and eat healthy. This keeps me in the mindset I need on the day of the exam.
ReplyDeleteI have taken many practice exams for both ACT and SAT and I took the real SAT a couple of months ago, I think it is a waste of time and energy that makes it like you are smarter and have a higher IQ if you do better on this test which is not the case at all. If you better understand how to take the tests and use the tricks to answer the question you will exceed in doing better on this test.
