Protection Over Italian Environment
In Rome on February 8, 2022, the Italian parliament approved a law that would lead to the protection of the environment being a part of the Italian constitution. The law itself states that the state of Italy "must safeguard the environment, biodiversity and the ecosystem 'in the interest too of future generations.'" The law stated that "any private economic initiative must not damage health or the environment." The Ecological Transition Minister, Roberto Cingolani, said the bill was "an essential step" for Italy as it would "raise green investments" in Rome. This would ultimately help the European Union recover its lost funds from the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19. Cingolani said, "I think this is a momentous day"; it is clear that he and the Italian government are both very excited to see how this new change will positively impact Italy and possibly even the world. Although alongside these positive impacts this new change will make, there will also be negative impacts or consequences. For Italy, it is not "immediately clear what the judicial repercussions of the new law would be", but it could be assumed that current markets and businesses such as paper and tree cutting industries would be endangered by this law. The Italian branch of the WWF says that they are expecting "parliament to adapt existing legislation on environmental issues." Italy has finally acknowledged the fundamental principle of the environment within its legislation (Amante).
This new law would place Italy among the over 100 countries in the world that enshrine the human right to a healthy environment within their constitution (Williams). What do you think? Which countries and nations should head in this direction? Is the environment something we should focus so heavily on in today's world? Why?

I think that it is extremely important focus heavily on the environment. We are facing a crisis because we are not protecting the Earth, and we do not have a lot of time to fix it. I think that it is important for countries to put laws in measure to help protect the environment so we can help fix the world.
