Maya Garaway Week 15: Oat Milk Lady

Everyone in life goes through difficult times. Whether these events are big or small, we all should have an outlet to express these emotions. Recently, I have been advised to start expressing myself through my art. Sadly, I don't have much time for my own art projects because of AP Art, but there is an artist who I admire. Currently, their art company is known as Oat Milk Lady, I personally think that's a great name. Their work focuses on expressing themself and processing their emotions.

Their style ranges across multiple mediums, mostly including digital, colored pencils, and acrylic. Most of the art they produce is also in an illustrated and abstract style. Each piece tends to include a similar color palette of light pastel colors and a quote that describes what the artist feels. Each piece is able to express such a strong emotion and their work is very influential to me.

One of my favorite pieces of Oat Milk Lady is “Maybe The Birds Sing For A Reason.” This piece is one of my favorites because of the feeling of calmness it is able to portray. The piece is an illustration piece of a morning glow into a peaceful room with writing which says, “My mornings don't feel as heavy anymore. Maybe the birds sing for a reason.” Another powerful piece is “Did You Have To Twist The Knife?” This piece has a composition of a knife with salt, Band-Aids, and a lime in the background. The quote on this one is written in a harsher, black font and says, “Did You Have To Twist The Knife? Was The Salt Not Enough??” Between the composition and quote, this piece is able to show the feeling of betrayal that the artist felt while drawing this piece.

Despite Oat Milk Lady’s interesting name, their style is so unique and inspiring. The color palette is so soft, but is able to illustrate strong emotions and messages. Oat Milk Lady is currently one of my favorite artists.

  1. I'm not a huge art person (mostly because I'm really bad at it) but I have always wished I could've been better at it. I really like these artworks, actually, because I think they have calming and soft colors, and the quotes mean that you don't have to think about what they mean, they just tell you whether the author is being hopeful, happy, angry, sad, etc.

  2. I'm in the same boat as Adam in which I can't paint or draw any sort of art. However, I do appreciate the famous and meaningful pieces of art. Art is important as it allows people to express themselves, and let their emotions out.
