Lindsey Maschler week 17: Conspiracy Theories

A conspiracy theory is a theory that is not 100% true with evidence to support it, but is not proven wrong or right. There are conspiracy theories about anything from mermaids are real, to theories about Tupac not actually being dead. Some of the wildest conspiracy theories are very very out there, that people actually believe. The US has a long list of conspiracy theories, as well as many other countries all over the world.

One of the most well known conspiracy theory in the US is the theory that birds are part of the government. This theory is about how the CIA uses chemtrails to kill the live birds, which then are replaced with drones from Area 51 to spy on people. Another well known conspiracy theory is Bigfoot in general. There are a claimed 2,032 sightings of Bigfoot in Washingotn, a huge ape creature that is not proved to be real. There have been sightings all over the US, but Washington has had the most sightings so far. The Lochness monster is another made up creature that has all kinds of theories linked to it, but instead of living in the woods, it lives in the lake.

Lastly, my favorite conspiracy theory, is the Brunswick Springs. Located in Vermont, these springs are so mystrious there are theories about what kind of powers it holds. In fact, Ripley’s Believe It or Not  named the springs the eighth wonder of the world because there are six springs that each have completely different minerals despite coming from the same source, including iron, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, bromide, and arsenic. Additionally, the Abenaki Native Americans in the 1700s thouht that the springs had the power to heal illnesses, and according to legend, when a soldier from the French and Indian War tried to bottle the spring, the natives cursed them. Ever since then, four hotels were built throughout the years near the springs and each has mysteriously burned down.

What conspiracy theory is most interesting to you? Is there a theory that you think is absolutely ridiculous?

  1. I have watched some videos about conspiracy theorists, and I think these people's philosophies are fascinating. The conspiracy theorist finds facts to support the outlandish claim, rather than the normal person, who creates the claim by looking at all the facts. While I personally do not believe in any conspiracy theories, I find the theory that we are living in a simulation or TV program (like The Truman Show) interesting.
