Michael Hakim Week 12 - Newly Updated Vaccines
As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on throughout the world, many are left wondering how much longer it will continue. The omicron variant has ripped through the world, leaving many hospitalized, and leaving others questioning the authority of the vaccines. However, with the omicron variant finally beginning to decrease, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and Pfizer has plans to further this progress.
This morning, the USA-based company, along with their partner BioNTech, started to research methods to further improve their vaccine. They plan to do this by tweaking the vaccine to match the omicron variant, which is highly contagious. Though the makers of the vaccines have constantly tried to improve their vaccines to match the ongoing mutations of the virus, this instance is especially important, considering how contagious this variant really is.
Though the original vaccines are already effective and offer good protection against all variants, studies throughout the U.S. have proven that having a booster shot improves one’s chances of avoiding a severe infection. Pfizer is calling upon 1,420 adults from ages 18 to 55 to be the test subjects for these new shots. Their results will then be monitored by researchers, who will examine how it impacts the immune system. Some unvaccinated people will also be enrolled in the study.
These newly updated vaccines should help to further lower the cases, and with luck, may be able to even make them lower than ever before. These vaccines truly are a part of a COVID-free future, and their effectiveness of them should not be ignored.
Do you think a 4th vaccine is necessary?

I think the progress made in terms of vaccines are incredible. Without the vaccines, people would be at much higher risk for hospitalizations and further implications. I think that the vaccines will become a new norm, and we will need to get vaccinated routinely. I also think that the 4th vaccine is necessary as there are new variants, and the immunity supplied by the vaccine isn't as effective as it could be.
ReplyDeleteAfter two years with Covid, we have to realize that Covid is not going anywhere. Everytime the numbers get extremely low, a new variant creates and the numbers go back to being high. The vaccine has helped high risk people from getting extremely ill.
ReplyDeleteI think if we end up needing a fourth vaccine we should get it because the past vaccines have helped insanely with the effects of getting covid. For people that have health issues this is also really important for them so they don't die.
