Liam Meldung - Week 12, The "Encanto" Phenomenon

    “Encanto” has become a huge deal since it came out on November 24, 2021.​​​​ The movie became the most successful animated film at the box office during the pandemic, reeling in $223 million from all around the world. The music became a big part of its fame and popularity. Six songs have taken a spot on the Billboard 100. They topped songs made not just by anyone but by the one and only, Adele. The movie soundtrack even became the first, since 2019 to reach the number one position on the Billboard 100. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, beat out “Let It Go” and became the highest ranked Disney song in more than 26 years. The “Encanto” phenomenon took the world by storm. 

    Lin Manuel Miranda, the songwriter behind the masterpieces in the movie, has had a lot to say about the “Encanto” music’s effect in the world. Miranda makes it clear that he wanted the music to become something everyone could relate to. He explains that even though you can sit there listening to the music and dance to it, the songs have a deeper, more complex meaning, which is what makes it so good. He commented specifically on “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” saying that it is his “Send in the Clowns”. “Send in the Clowns” was the only one of Stephen Sondheim songs’ to become a chart topper. It was unexpected that it would be that song. That’s why Miranda compares this experience with Stephen Sondheim’s because he didn’t expect that “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” would have been his chart topper. Something else I found interesting was that “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is not going to be running for an Oscar, instead, the song “Dos Oruguitas” will. If the song is chosen, Miranda will have won an Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and Emmy award.

    I have not yet seen "Enchanto" but now that I know about all the famous people involved in it I would consider watching it. Lin Manuel Miranda will probably win the oscar because it's Lin Manuel Miranda.

    I have not seen the movie, but I know multiple people who have, and they really like it. In addition, i have been hearing some of the songs on my for you page on tik tok.

    I have not seen all of the movie yet but I am excited to! So far it is really entertaining and I love the animations! The song "We Dont Talk About Bruno" keeps getting stuck in my head, its really catchy!

    Encanto was a great movie. I would not be surprised if Lin Manuel Miranda wins the Oscar for “Dos Oruguitas”.

As I’m sure most of you know, I am very organized and like to plan out everything. When things don’t go according to the plan, it stresses me out.       Thursday morning, I assumed I would have an easy experience flying from PBI to JFK on JetBlue airlines.
