Week 8 Avital Horowitz - My Inner Bully

I feel like we all have something in our heads that tries to make us feel bad or hopeless. Even if you don't have depression or anxiety, everyone has a depressive or anxious state at some point in their lives. I, personally, have anxiety and it's definitely a struggle. My entire family has to deal with it on an everyday basis. Anxiety can come to everyone in different ways. I have friends that have it when it comes to school or being social and many other things. The only way to pass through those episodes is by occupying yourself with something you enjoy or just letting that episode pass, so you can learn how to handle them. I have a perfect movie quote that describes life perfectly. "Life is an endless series of trainwrecks with only brief, commercial-like breaks of happiness"(Ryan Renolds). This quote is actually from Deadpool, which to be honest is kind of funny because Deadpool is a comedy and this quote is actually super deep.

Now, you are probably reading this and thinking that I need psychiatric help, but let me explain a little bit so none of you are concerned for my mental wellbeing. The quote I previously wrote kind of describes how I see life. Most of life is really difficult, but those small happy and enjoyable moments make life better. Those moments are so important because they allow us to appreciate life more. If you think about it, you kind of need those "series of trainwrecks" in order to appreciate the good parts of life that we look forward to.

We all have an inner bully. Mine follows me wherever I go. It doesn't have a name, or a body, or a soul, but it has a voice. Sometimes that voice is stronger than my own, but you have to learn how to make your own voice louder to make it to those commercial breaks. I tone out my inner bully by trying to occupy myself with something I enjoy. Most of the time it works, but when it doesn't you pretty much just have to wait it out. And yeah that sounds crappy and annoying, but it's the truth. You have to let that depressive or anxious moment pass in order to reflect on it. How do you deal with mental episodes?

Hope it is okay to post art here. My recent work. : r/OCD

  1. I definitely understand where you're coming from. Whenever I don't sleep enough or burnout/overwork myself, I feel extreme anxiety, stress, and other aggressive negative emotions. It is important to have some self care in your life in order to avoid hurting yourself and others through your negativity.

  2. I know a few people that suffer from anxiety, depression, or other mental disorders and it can be very sad to see them fall into different mental states. I frequently worry about them and it feels awful knowing that you can't really do anything to help them and that you just have to watch them be hurt until it passes.

  3. I completely agree with you, everyone does have at one point in their lives an episode of anxiety or depression. It sucks. When I feel down and way too anxious about whatever it is, I just take a moment for myself. I stop whatever I'm doing, and breathe, that way I can take back control of my body and mind.

  4. Seeing people suffer from mental episodes, and it's not nice to see. Everyone suffers from something slightly different, and it affects everyone differently. I just think taking a step back from whatever is freaking you out is helpful.

  5. The way I deal with mental stuff is by talking to people who have experienced similar things. It makes me feel less alone and shows me that I am not the only one feeling that way. It can also help the person you are talking with deal with their stuff.
