Week 10- Junior Year: An Update

A few months ago, in one of the first blogs our class ever wrote, I wrote about how crazy school had been because of all the holidays we had. Surely enough, these holidays majorly interfered with our collective ability to learn, and even though I like having time off from school, it was hard to keep up with what we were learning in class because we’d go home for 3 days straight after and forget everything.

Now, things seem to be settling down as we gear up for finals after we have (ironically) another break. School now doesn’t resemble what it looked like last year, but that was partly because we had a peculiar year with Zoom school. Junior year feels like the last two years of high school, but on steroids. I was talking with some other kids in Judaics class a few weeks ago and we all agreed. It really takes Junior year to make you feel stupid. At a pin drop that A grade that you had in your classes can turn into a B from one test. You miss one day of AP Calc, and it’s like Mr Harris is speaking greek. You don’t pay attention for five minutes in AP Chem, and you’ve moved on to the next chapter. Luckily, I’ve consulted with many people, seniors and teachers, who agreed that Junior year is the most challenging year of high school. We have to contend with keeping good grades, staying involved in extracurriculars, getting our community service hours, and prepping for ACTs or SATs. It’s not easy. I’d be lying if I said my homework hasn’t made me want to cry before. I’d be lying if I said that Mrs. Leibowitz’s chem tests haven’t made my hair fall out before from stress.

Such is Junior year. All this means is that I get to look forward to my senior year, with a somewhat lighter workload and less stress (excluding colleges). If there’s one good thing I’ll take away from my Junior year, it’s that I got to have great teachers, and sometimes, a great time.

  1. Junior year has been very stressful. I understand exactly what you are saying in this. This year has been very challenging and extremely fast paced. I think it also seems so hard because of the year of virtual school we had which made school a little bit easier for a lot of us. I am sure we will look back and be proud of ourselves and our hard work from this year.

  2. I agree that this year has been more stressful than any year in the past. The only times I have ever felt this stressed in past school years are the weeks before midterms and finals. We are about to enter that period of time, and the thought of midterm-related stress raised to a higher level makes me very fearful and anxious. I hope that we can get through it and enjoy the lower-stress senior year once this year is over.
