Rosalie Weiss- Week 7- Twilight Review

The Twilight movies were just added to Netflix, and being someone who has never seen them, I decided to check them out. The Twilight Saga consists of five movies based on the four Twilight books written by Stephanie Meyer. The first movie follows Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), an introverted girl forced to live with her dad in the small town of Forks, Washington. There, she meets Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a vampire with a soft side and a thirst for her blood. This is an issue as Edward and his family agreed not to consume human blood, considering themselves vegetarians for vampires.
I honestly didn't hate the first two movies, but they are nowhere near good. Bella is exceptionally annoying and makes the worst choices. I genuinely cannot comprehend any of her actions. Edward warned her to stay away from him because he is a vampire, afraid he can’t control himself and might accidentally kill her. That is probably the biggest red flag I have ever seen, but Bella ignores it.
I also don't understand why Edward won't turn Bella into a vampire. He says something about not wanting her to lose her soul, but I don't see the big deal. He and his family seem fine, and who wouldn’t want to be immortal. He acts as if being a vampire is a curse rather than a blessing and envies "normal" people. I guess this is a “the grass is always greener on the other side” moment.
I don't know if I would recommend these movies to people who haven't seen them already. They feel extremely slow and boring despite having relatively interesting plotlines. Watching the second movie felt almost like a chore, and I can't be bothered to watch any of the later movies. If you are interested, I suggest you watch the first movie. it gives you a basic idea of the story and is bearable to watch.
Team Edward or team Jacob?
I think team Edward, just from what you are describing. Edward seems a little selfish and I am never for anyone who is like that.
ReplyDeleteI have been in a similar position, but I was satisfied with my show. I never really understood the hype around anime, and I always thought they were weird. I saw one a couple months ago that my friends were telling me to watch; it was called "Erased", and I loved it. Unlike your experience, mine was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteTwilight is so weirdly iconic because of all the weird ways people imitate all the characters. If we're being honest, Edward and Jacob are both selfish and they both try to control Bella instead of letting her make her own decisions. However, she can barely make them herself. The books are much better than the movies, and I agree with you that you shouldn't watch them because they're really boring.
ReplyDeleteI have never watched twilight, and after reading your review I am not sure if I will. I do not want to waste my time on a movie that is a "chore" to watch. If you want to watch something that is interesting, you should watch the show Manifest. It is suspenseful and interesting throughout the whole show.
