It's nearly December, it's cold out, it's the end of the first semester of school, and it's time for some of the most loved holidays. The temperature has set in the mood for winter and December as it has changed from 85 to 65 degrees here in Florida. The chilly weather creates a feeling of nostalgia for me as I reminisce about drinking hot chocolate near the t.v as a younger child. I also remember celebrating one of the most fun Jewish Holidays, Chanukah.

Chanukah has actually come early this year. The holiday usually comes in around early/mid-December, but this year it came in late November. Is this weird? Yes. Do I like it? No. Chanukah this year feels strange. I didn't even know it was Chanukah until my family lit the candles! I am so used to celebrating the amazing holiday during mid-December when there are only a couple weeks left of school until winter break. This year, I will have to wait a lot longer. Chanukah felt like a huge reward for getting through the first semester of school, but this year it doesn't. I feel strongly that this is because of the date of Chanukah. Although nothing about the holiday actually changed, the feeling of it did. Of course, I am still happy that it's here and I get to celebrate Chanukah, but I just wish it had the same magical feeling as it did when I was younger. Maybe this is all because I am getting older? I hope not. What are you excited about this winter? How do you feel about early Chanukah?

  1. I always have loved this time of year because it is around my birthday and I also love the holidays. However, I do think that Hanukkah starting so early is a little weird. Usually it is after my birthday, so it just doesn't feel right to have it so far before my birthday.
