                                                                A Well Needed Break

    Self-care prevents suicide. I know this is extreme, but it is true. Self-care is really important, it clears the mind of negativity and prevents the feeling of being burned out. Students and adults often feel burned out because of time management, a feeling of repetition, and a lack of social interaction. It is important to have some time for yourself in order to remove negativity from the mind; this so-called time for yourself is simply called a break, and I have been needing one.

    Recently, I've had to stay up late because of schoolwork and tests. I usually get home around 6:30 p.m because I have basketball practice every day from 3:30 until around 5:45. I also have game days, and I usually get home around 8:00 p.m on game days. Then once I finally do get home, I need to eat, shower, and get going to do my dreaded schoolwork. My homework usually takes me about 2 1/2 hours to finish, so it leaves me with very little to no free time. Now I know there's a strong argument present against me: I chose to be on the basketball team so it was my decision, and I totally agree. I don't regret my decision, and by no means am I complaining if it seems like I am. I am just simply stating that recently I've had an above-average workload in terms of homework and studying for tests. Where am I going with this? Well, this increase in schoolwork has created a higher demand for a break from school for my body. Thankfully, my "prayers" have been answered because Thanksgiving break has arrived. 

    I'm excited to see my extended family once again and have an amazing experience at the Thanksgiving table. From the fantastic food to the funny jokes, I think my Thanksgiving will be great. I am also really looking forward to having a nice relaxing week off of school. I will be with my family and friends, playing lots of basketball, watching some shows and movies, and playing some of my favorite video games over the break in order to destress myself. Because of this break, I will have some dedicated time for self-care, and I hope you will too.

  1. I totally agree that finding time for yourself is so needed, but so difficult to do. I have also been looking forward to Thanksgiving break, I am going to be spending time with friends and family and hopefully watching some movies and tv shows.
