Noah Bard - Week 7: My Uncomfortable Boot
Last Tuesday was the first day of soccer practice at Donna Klein, and I look forward to it every year. At the end of the first practice, we did about thirty minutes of conditioning. We ran sprint-laps around the field, to help build up our running stamina. Although I was getting tired, it wasn’t too bad until the last lap. I could feel my legs starting to cramp up, but it was the last lap so it shouldn’t have been a problem, but it was.
During the last lap, I injured myself and later found out that I had strained my Achilles. In 8th grade, I had a similar injury called severe’s disease its located in a similar place on the heel. Although the pain I endured during this injury was much worse than I endured then. The sharp shooting pain that happened every time I walked was unparalleled to anything I have ever experienced.
The very next day I went to the doctor and was prescribed a boot. Funnily enough, the “cure” to my strained Achilles was less intense than my injury in 8th grade. I’m about one week into my two weeks of wearing a boot. The boot is extremely uncomfortable and makes life incredibly inconvenient. My leg is constantly being strangled by tight velcro straps and an air-inflated cushion. Every time I walk, I’m over-compensating with different parts of my leg, like my body, because my other shoe is an uneven height compared to the boot.
Hopefully, I will be able to go back to playing the sport I love next week, and I’ll never have to wear this boot again.
