Lindsey Maschler Week 9: Red (Taylor's Version)

Taylor Swift is debatably one of the biggest singers in the entire world, not only because of her music but because of just how smart she actually is. To her, the lyrics are the most important part of a song, and she wants people to read the lyrics instead of just listening to the beat. So to help enforce this, she used to capitalize random letters scattered throughout the song. The capitalized letters were used to spell out words so that there would be a secret message in her lyrics, which was her first type of easter egg. Everything Taylor does has some kind of easter egg in it, which makes it fun for fans to have a form of a scavenger hunt and to make up different theories.

Another reason why she is smart is that she only owns the lyrics to her music, up until the album Reputation. From Lover on, she owns the lyric rights, plus the actual production rights. Since the music industry is corrupt, the people that own her first six albums are not good people, and in a way, stealing the money that Swift is making off of those albums. Since she wants the actual rights of her music without having to go through other people, she decided to re-record those six albums. The albums have all of the original songs on them, plus songs she never released that were meant to go on the album, which she calls “songs from the vault”.

Back on April 9, 2021, she released her first re-recorded album, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), and it was a hit. The vault tracks as well as the original songs were phenomenal. On November 12, 2021, she released Red (Taylor’s Version), and it broke Spotify’s records by an insane amount. It was named the most-streamed album by a female artist on Spotify in a day, breaking the record she held from her album Folklore.

The song that everyone was excited about was All Too Well (10-minute version) (Taylor’s version) (From The Vault). She originally wrote this for Red’s release back in 2008, but ultimately decided a 10-minute song was absurd and did not want to release it, so she put it “in the vault”. All Too Well was always Taylor Swift’s favorite, so she decided she did not want to make it a single or make a music video for it, but the fans loved it so much and quickly became everyone’s favorite. With the original version of it being amazing, people were so excited to listen to the new one. Yes, it is a 10-minute song, but it is one of the best songs I have ever heard, and it has been on repeat since it came out. Do you like Taylor Swift?

  1. I have always been a fan of Taylor's music but was never as big of a swiftie as I am now. I just recently started listening to her music again and forgot how much of a genius she is. All Too Well (10- minute version) (Taylor's version) (From the vault) is an absolute masterpiece.
