Lindsey Maschler Week 10: Family In Town
My family lives all over the US, in states like Hawaii, New Orleans, New Jersey, and Wisconsin, so I obviously do not see them much. During the holidays, however, I am able to see them since we all go to my grandma’s house for Thanksgiving.
All of my cousins, aunts, and uncles on my dad’s side spend time in Florida for a couple of days before and after Thanksgiving, so even though I am on a break from school, I still will be very busy spending time with them. My dad has three brothers, and they both have 2 or 3 kids, so there will definitely be a lot of people at my grandparent’s house. Just like many other families, mine does not always get along during the holidays, so this week will definitely be very interesting. My cousins and I are all close in age, so when we get to see each other we have a lot of fun.
Coincidentally, Hanukkah starts during Thanksgiving, so I get to celebrate a holiday with a family that I normally do not get to celebrate with. My family does something called a ‘Hot Candle’, which is just like a Secret Santa, but with a different name. My uncle draws the name randomly, but I have gotten one of my cousins pretty much every year we have been doing it. This is always my favorite part about the holiday since it is fun seeing who has who. Do you have any family coming into town? What are some of your favorite family traditions?
It is so cool that you have family all around the US, especially in Hawaii. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii to vacation, but I cannot imagine living there. My sister came home from college on Sunday so I am spending time with her.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of something like hot candles before and it was always very fun. My brother just came home from college, so my family spends time together. On Thanksgiving, we always go to the beach in the morning as a tradition to start off Thanksgiving day.
ReplyDeleteHaving family all over the U.S is very special because it brings so many different cultures to the dinner table. Even though you are all from the same country, different states have different aspects and cultures. I think that's really cool; plus your 'Hot Candle' game sounds fun and very unique.
