Jack Yesner Week 10- Watching Something New
I am not the kind of person who likes to try new things. I eat the same things, I wear the same things, I do the same things, and I definitely prefer to watch the same things. Generally, I have two or three television shows that I watch each episode of on the day they come out, and I watch nothing else. Since these shows’ seasons have either recently concluded or have yet to start, I found myself without a show to watch. I looked on Netflix to see if there were any shows similar to the ones I already watch, but when there wasn’t, I decided to watch something completely new.
Even after deciding to watch something new, I still wasn’t sure on which specific show to watch. I settled on the show Survivor. I had heard Mrs. Leibowitz talk positively about the show in the past and had read Ben’s blog post a couple of weeks ago about it, so I knew the show had to be at least somewhat decent. I watched one episode to see if I would enjoy it, and while it wasn’t spectacular television, I decided it was worth watching a second episode. But as I watched the second episode, I became hooked on the show. I binge-watched nine episodes that day, and finished the entire season in just four days. I found that the show had many twists and I was never able to predict what would happen next. After finishing the season, I searched online and found that the season I had watched, season 37, was in the upper half of seasons in terms of entertainment value, which is possibly why I enjoyed watching it so much. Nevertheless, I plan to keep watching other seasons of the show in the future.
I think my experience in watching this show can give a lesson in trying new things. While I could have seen that there were no available shows I liked to watch on Netflix and decided to turn off the TV, I instead chose to watch something new. That choice led to a new interest. This moral can apply to other things in my life as well. I should not be afraid of taking a class, or participating in an activity because I do not currently like it. I should be adventurous and try new things, and maybe a new hobby or interest will develop.
Do you enjoy to watch the show Survivor or have watched a new show you have liked recently? Have you ever tried something new and found a new interest because of it?
