Hannah Shinder Week 9- Winter!

As summer had quickly disappeared and fall appeared for a very short time, the best time of year has come! Winter has a place in many hearts of people living in Florida as it is a time that is considered “cold”.

Although many Floridians sometimes say that it is too cold, many northerners always disagree and make fun of us. When I was on the phone with my family who lives in New York, they made fun of me for saying that 60 degrees were considered sweatshirt and sweatpants weather. They said that they would be in shorts and a sweatshirt and stay outside all day. Although I could probably survive wearing those clothes, I and many others find it more fun to act over-dramatic about how cold it really is. I love it when I go to eat brunch and all I see is people wearing winter coach and ugg slippers and it's literally sunny and 60 degrees.

Even though during the winter the beach can get a little cold a windy, I still find it fun to enjoy a day there. I usually go since my brother comes home from college and is obsessed with going to the beach since he goes to college in Boston. My family always teases him, because he still isn’t used to the winter in Boston and it’s his last year in college.

Although the 60-degree winter is fun, I am also in love with the winter up north. Many describe winter up north as something you never want to live in, but I enjoy the snow and cold. The way to work around being freezing is just dressing appropriately in my opinion. The feeling of putting on your winter coat and boots and stepping in the snow as you walk down the streets makes me feel a sense of happiness.

Discussion question: Do you consider Florida during the winter cold and do you like the cold weather?

Comments

  1. I love cold weather as it allows me to wear the most comfortable clothes. Although it really sucks getting up in the morning when it's cold outside. In comparison to actually cold places like the Northeast, Florida is never cold, but for me it's the perfect temperature.

  2. Being from Chicago, I don't think I will ever consider winter in Florida cold. I always hear my friends complaining that it is freezing outside when it is 70 degrees and laugh because if they think that is cold they would not be able to live in Chicago. Winter in Chicago is terrible, so when people in Florida tell me that they love winter I always get so confused because to me, when I think of winter the only things that come to mind are heavy winter coats, cracked skin from the cold, and traffic from too much snow. But I guess now I can say that I love winter because in Florida you can wear long pants and sweatshirts without being too hot without needing to worry about lugging around a heavy winter coat everywhere you go.
