Ben Nikpour - Week 8: Survivor Season 41 or 1?
If you don’t already know, Survivor is a reality-competition show in which castaways are sent to an island to compete in exhaustive competitions. In this show, the castaways compete in physical and social competitions while also living in the wilderness. In each episode, a castaway is voted off the show by their fellow tribemates. The show has undergone loads of changes over 41 seasons since its premier in 2000. Typically, the show films and releases two seasons a year, but producers were forced to halt production because of the pandemic. After a year of no new seasons, they finally began releasing the forty-first season every Wednesday night.
This new season of Survivor is surrounded by controversy. Season 41 of Survivor is unique to every other season. There have been more changes to the show than ever before. Many fans do not want to accept this new era of the show, causing controversy. The first major change is seen through the duration of the show. A typical season of Survivor is 39 days, while this season is only 26 days. The duration change is most likely because of Covid related restrictions, as it was made clear that contestants would have to quarantine for 14 days. Another change occurred in the gameplay of the show. In most seasons, contestants have the opportunity to earn or find advantages. Season 41 takes the idea of advantages to another level. It seems like every person this season has acquired an advantage. Not only that but, some of the new advantages seem just a little too complex and unnecessary to the gameplay. Most Survivor fans liked the gameplay from the earlier seasons when there were very few advantages. We relished the game more when it relied on social abilities rather than just finding new advantages bringing you further into the game. Maybe we will learn to like the changes made this season as we have done in past seasons. Personally, I am wretched by where Survivor is heading. Nevertheless, I will continue to binge the show till the day that I am on it myself.

Do you watch Survivor? If you do, what are your thoughts on the changes made this season? If not, would you consider watching the show?
I watched the first 10 or so seasons of Survivor, then I stopped watching. I guess I got tired of it? Mrs. Leibowitz tells me I should start watching again. She tries to get me hooked on all the shows. I like Amazing Race better, because I like the activities they have, seeing the places and events around the world, the realistic advantages (helping but not making it unfair), and the fact that they need to team up and make friends to really get far.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch this show because of my brother who over the summer last year watched it a ton and got me on it. I haven't watched it to be honest since, so I don't really have an opinion on the new season. All I know is it was a good show, amusing, and made food look really good.
ReplyDeleteI've never really watched the show, but it seems like something I could easily binge watch. I don't think I'll get into the show anytime soon but I'm wondering how different this season could possibly be, and how drastic is the entertainment level because of these changes?
