Ben Nikpour - Week 10: The Break We All Needed

Although it has been just around 90 days since the school year started, it feels like it's been a year. We have all been working so hard to do the best we can in this challenging year. Not only is it our junior year of high school, considered the most difficult grade, but also we are coming back from a year of Covid. The pandemic gave us a year of virtual learning, so we did not get the entire learning experience we needed; most of us are still getting used to being back in person. The change in learning has made these past few weeks of school feel so much more exhausting than they should have been. Last week especially, many students expressed their exhaustion as Thanksgiving break approached. For me, these past two days have been extremely tiring and challenging because of all the tests and assignments teachers attempted to cram in before going on break. Now that it is finally Thanksgiving break, I feel like I can take a minute to relax, something that I have not had much time to do lately.

Thanksgiving is a time of looking back and seeing what you are grateful for in life. This Thanksgiving, I am grateful to have a few days off to sleep, relax, and spend time with my family. I needed this break. I know I probably just sound lazy, but I am not; I am just so drained from the past couple of weeks. I will soak in these next few days as much as I can. These days are the few days we have before diving into a pool of stress caused by the midterms coming up. I look forwards to getting the midterms done so I can go on another break.

  1. I agree completely. These past few weeks have been very stressful and I’m so looking forward to Thanksgiving break. This break is the calm before the storm.

  2. I think we have all experienced a sense of burnout from school recently. The first month or two wasn't so bad because we had all the Jewish holidays distracting us from school, but the past month and a half have been especially brutal since they have almost all been five day weeks. I am glad Thanksgiving break is here to break it up, but I do fear for the workload that will be placed on us next week and the week after. The only thing I can do at this point is savor the time that we have off this week, and count down the days until Winter Break.

  3. I totally agree that so much work has been given recently that we are in need of a vacation. At this point, we all have to do what Jack said and just countdown till winter break.

  4. Thanksgiving break is the perfect time to catch up on sleep, friends, and have a fun time. It is peaceful and exciting because you can accomplish so much with three days off of school.
