Atara Berkower - Week 7 - How I maintain a healthy lifestyle

How I maintain a healthy lifestyle

As difficult as it is, I try to keep a healthy lifestyle. This includes eating nutritious meals and working out daily. On a daily basis, I eat salads and fruits at lunch and dinner to receive my vitamins. Bringing food from home helps me stay healthy in school because I am not eating the unhealthy food given to students. When I get home, I eat a nutritious snack like yogurt or fruit before I go to the gym. Following the gym, I am inspired to cook a healthy meal. I have recently started making spaghetti squash. I never enjoyed eating it, but I found a way that makes it tasty. I put tomato sauce and cheese on it, and it tastes like regular spaghetti. It is not difficult to make, although it takes some time; while it is in the oven I do my homework. Another meal I have recently started cooking was fried eggs or omelet. If anyone knew me last year, I hated the idea of eating eggs and would never think to even try it. This changed when I was forced to eat it in Israel because they had no other option that I enjoyed at the hotels I stayed at. Forcing myself to eat it, the thought of eating it had changed and I enjoyed it more daily. When I got home, I started making it and it has changed my life. It is so easy and quick to make. Sometimes I toast bread, cut up an avocado, and place the egg on top. That is my favorite way to eat it, although when I am in a time crunch, I eat it with the salad that is in my fridge.

It is a challenge to stay healthy when there are so many options for unhealthy food around you. I manage to stay healthy throughout the week by cooking foods that I have found tasty to me. On the other hand, the weekends are the days I do not focus on staying healthy. I keep those days as days that I do not focus on my nutrition. What is something that motivates you to maintain your health? If you do not focus on your health, what is something that you work towards to weekly?

  1. I too try to eat healthy, and l totally agree that it's easier to stay on track at school when you bring food from home. I wish I had the motivation to work out everyday, but I feel like I don't have the time for that. It's really cool that you manage to fit so much stuff into every day.
