Ariella Green Week 11: This Time of the Year
Don’t ya hate the weeks leading up to winter break?
As a student, I find that this is the most stressful and rushed time of the year. Not only are there so many holidays that require us to visit our family, but we’re also wrapping up the semester while trying not to destroy our grades. Since there is so much to do, some of us probably weren’t able to enjoy our break. If I wasn’t babysitting or cooking, I was doing school work.
Thanksgiving break is the calm before the storm. These next few weeks will be filled with homework and studying. If we don’t do well on our midterms our report cards will not be too great, and if our report cards don’t look too great, then the colleges we apply to will not be too happy about that. They’re not kidding when they say that junior year is the most stressful year of high school.
We do have Hanukkah coming up, but it becomes hard to enjoy the holiday when there is so much work to be done. For those who celebrate it, Christmas is coming up, and that is supposed to be one of the most joyous times of the year. Everyone must be feeling a little hectic because of all the work and holidays that are at the end of the year. Even though we’re Jews, these next few weeks should be filled with some merriness and cool weather, even after Hanukkah. For once, I would like the month of December to feel like a Hallmark movie. In a Hallmark movie, there is always a happy ending, and some fun along the way. Even though the movies airing on Hallmark are super cheesy and predictable, they always leave the viewer with a happy and positive feeling after. After all of this chaos, I hope for a happy winter break.
Question: What are your thoughts about this time of year?
I agree with you that this time of the year is stressful, but it is also really fun. I'm not stressed about midterms yet, right now I'm just enjoying the cool weather and Hanukkah.
ReplyDeleteI think that this time of the year is the most stressful for sure. Teachers who taught slower during the first few months cram information before the midterm, we get tons of tests and assignments to fill out the gradebook, and the stressful task of 5-7 midterms looms ominously on the horizon. Thankfully, this anxiety-producing stretch of time is only two to three weeks long and it will be over soon enough. I like to take it one day at a time and the time goes quickly.
