Adi Chaham week 7- Florida Drivers

The past few years I’ve heard a lot about how bad Florida drivers are but, it wasn’t till I actually started driving, I realized how bad Florida drivers really are.

I have only had my diverse license for a few months and there are countless times I’ve driven and wondered “what is this person doing?”.

A few days ago I stopped at a red light and all of a sudden this car coming up to the left of me went into the left lane. Standing at a red light, with the left arrow red, the person decides to start driving and make the left turn. I looked at the car and wondered "do you not see the red light?"

Something that happens to me way too often is when someone would be waiting to make a u -turn (not at a light) and I’m driving straight and I’m literally 5 or 6 meters away from the driver and the driver standing, waiting to make the u-turn decides “you know what, I don’t feel like waiting anymore, so I’m just gonna make a u-turn and hope I don’t crash”. These people are willing to risk their lives because they don’t want to wait an extra 30 seconds for me to pass them in order for them to make a safe u-turn.

Don’t get me started on the slow drivers. If the speed limit is 50 mph, you're not supposed to be driving 30 mph. These people think others have all the time in the world but, we don’t, we have to get places as well.

Some people are so focused on their phones, they begin to swerve into other lanes, go through red lights or crash into others. These people risk not only their own lives but all those surrounding them. Now, this phone problem isn't only a Florida issue, it’s a worldwide issue.

I think the thing that bothers me the most are drivers that stop like 15 feet from the vehicle ahead of them when standing at a red light. This allows for an entire car to fit in between the two vehicles. I completely agree with those who leave a few feet from the driver in front of them but, those who are very far from the person in front of them get me very upset.

Finally, those whose headlights are very bright. Please, if you are one of those people, turn them down, you are blinding me and every other driver near you.

For most of you who do drive, well, you have probably seen these things and for those of you who don’t drive yet, you may think that most of the people should know what they shouldn’t/should do when they drive such as "red light means stop" and "green light means go" however, you’d be surprised.

What do you think about Florida drivers? Do you drive? Have you ever encountered any one of these things?

  2. I agree with you that literally, every Florida driver sucks. If anyone ever drives in the car with me, they know that I talk out loud about what the people around me are doing. I make fun of them because they do the most random things that are either illegal or just not necessary. In fact, I have encountered every single scenario you presented and what kills me most is when they have their lights so bright.

  3. I can relate to this so much, because, oh man, have I had my experiences with these crazy people. I've been in so many situations where drivers just turn into my lane in the middle of an intersection, or cut me off suddenly - it's scary. In my opinion, half the people on the road in Florida shouldn't even be driving!

  4. I never understood road rage until I started driving. I find myself yelling at other cars almost every time I drive. The worst thing is when someone cuts in front but goes slower than you were going.
