Rosalie Weiss- Week 6- The Worst Day Ever.

The title might be exaggerating a little bit, but I did go through it today, specifically after school.

Because I got out of school 30 minutes before my brother, I decided to do some errands. While at Target, I saw the most beautiful mug I had ever seen. It was shaped like a cute little snowman, and I had to buy it. I then picked up my brother and drove home.

I had a lot to carry, and once I walked into my house, I threw everything on the floor. As my bags hit the floor, I heard a shattering sound as if something broke and quickly realized my mistake. I remembered that my mug was in that bag. Reluctantly, I peered through the bag, hoping my mug was okay. It was not, and neither was I.

Despite the colossal amount of homework I had, I decided to return to target to get a new mug. Lucky for me, I live very close to a target, so it wasn't that much of a shlep. Once I got there, I sprinted directly to the aisle where I found the mug in the other target. To my dismay, It was not there. I asked the nearest salesperson where it would be, and they directed me to the holiday section of the store. It was not there either. Ready to give up, I headed for the door. That's when I saw it, a sweater with a cat playing the dreidel and large white words reading ”Happy Hannucat” on it. I immediately forgot about the stupid mug and happily headed to the checkout to purchase this beautiful item. This happiness, however, would not last long.

When I tried to scan the sweater, the machine called a sales attendant. The guy came over, tried it himself, and it still didn't work. He then informed me that the sweater that my happiness relied on was recalled. “RECALLED? Who recalls a sweater?”, was what I wanted to say. Instead, I said “oh, okay” as he took the sweater from me and walked away. I left the store empty-handed and emotionally unstable. I wish my troubles would have ended there, but that sadly was not the case.

While turning out of the parking lot, I failed to see several cars coming right towards me. Thankfully everyone was okay, but that experience made me think. Something terrible could have happened all because I was hyperfocused on my shopping misfortune. From this experience, I learned to not throw bags containing breakables and to always pay attention while driving.

What is a meaningful lesson you learned today?

Comments

  1. I am truly sorry that you had to go through the loss of the snowman mug and a Hanukkah sweater. You did not deserve to come home empty handed. Maybe you can go to another location and find it. I learned today to not drop glass mugs on the floor.

  2. I kid you not, I saw that sweater at Target a week or two ago, and it made me laugh because it was so cute and ridiculous. I'm sorry that your day was so sad (poor little snowman!), but I'm really happy that you were able to learn that lesson about paying attention without getting yourself hurt!

  3. I am so sorry that you had such a terrible and sad day! But, I love how you took your day and made it into such an interesting blog. I enjoyed your blog very much. Despite this not being your message, from reading your blog, I learned that a good writer could turn anything from boring to intresting and even make the reader continue reading.

  4. I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad day! Although, I think that your intellectual realization of how small things could affect your mood drastically was very intelligent and inspiring.
