I have always loved and appreciated theme parks. My family constantly takes us to theme parks such as Universal Orlando/Islands of Adventure, Disney World's Magic Kingdom/Epcot, and many carnivals. I have a special place in my heart specifically for the attractions and food in theme parks and carnivals. So it would seem as if theme parks were my heaven, right? Well, somehow, whenever I actually arrive, my stomach rumbles; I get a queasy feeling. I feel sick and nauseous, but why? Only I know the answer, but I don't want to admit it because I don't want to accept the truth.

The answer is roller coasters. I have always been petrified of roller coasters. Even the simple thought of something small like Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom made me shiver. Roller coasters are supposed to be a great experience; full of adrenaline pumps and excitement. They're supposed to be fun. My dad (who's a huge roller coaster enthusiast), friends, and the rest of my family say roller coasters are amazing, and I want to enjoy the experience too! So when my dad said we were going to Hollywood Studios and Universal Orlando, I promised myself I would go to the two major roller coasters there: Rock n' Roller Coaster (Disney) and Rip Ride Rockit (Universal).

When we arrived, we first enjoyed the calming attractions like 3d movies and shows. We then went to eat, and the food was incredible. But that's not what we're here for. We're here to conquer my fear: roller coasters. I was actually excited for Rock n' Roller Coaster because I knew it was nothing compared to what was coming the next day: Rip Ride Rockit. I hopped on the limo-style seats and locked myself in. I looked at my dad and younger brother who came with me, and we went from 0mph to 60mph in less than 2.3 seconds. The experience was amazing; I loved it so much. I liked it so much that I wanted to go again. We went two times in a row after that and I went to bed happy that day. The next day was Universal, where there was Rip Ride Rockit. This roller coaster's launch starts with a perfect 90-degree angle, so straight up vertically. This one was scary, but even more fun. I quickly realized there was nothing to fear in roller coasters as greater speed and height only mean greater experience.

I am looking forward to riding more roller coasters in the future, and I hope you have learned to tackle your fears; trust me, it's worth it. Do you like roller coasters? Which ones are your favorite and what makes them special?

  1. I used to only go on small rollercoasters in Disney, but then when I went to Universal for the first time I conquered my fears and rode the Hulk. My favorite rollercoasters would probably be Velocicoaster at Universal and Lightning Rod at Dollywood.

  2. I'm so proud of you for overcoming your fear. I remember my first REAL coaster... It was The Hulk in Universal. I've been addicted since then, and it's always been my favorite coaster.

  3. I've never ridden a big roller coaster before. They scare the crap out of me! But You've inspired me to maybe rethink that and try a roller coaster, maybe...
