Maya Garaway Week 6: Far Away Friend
10/26/21
This past week, one of my good friends flew down from Canada. I met my friend, Ryder, at camp years ago. We managed to stay in touch and maintain our friendship. Despite us being such good friends, this was my second time being able to see him since 2019.
Ryder stayed at my house and we were able to spend the whole weekend together. Despite not seeing each other in person in years, it was just like old times. We immediately acted as if nothing had changed and just spent our time together. From watching Squid Games, to going to the beach, and listening to a LOT of Doja Cat, Ryder and I had a great weekend. One of the highlights of the trip was the day we went out to Chipotle for the second time. I am tired out from Chipotle now but, we were able to go with one of my friends and we all ate together. We all had an amazing time and binged a few episodes of Squid Game afterward. We laughed a lot and made amazing memories together.
This trip allowed me to reflect on what I find important in a friendship. Even though Ryder and I live so far away from each other, we still have a strong and secure friendship. This helped me realize that the quality of the time you spend with someone is more important than the amount of time you spend together. This weekend showed me to not take small moments, like driving late at night while blasting music, for granted and to stop and appreciate them.
I love that your friendship was still the same after so long apart. That is one thing that is great about technology - the ability to keep in touch regularly, despite the miles.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your message. I feel like a lot of the time, we end up thinking about the future and what we're going to do in a week, or a month, but living in the moment is the best way to live.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the message you are trying to send in your last paragraph. I have some friends that live in Israel that I feel a stronger connection to than to some of my friends that I go to school with. I think it's so great that you guys are so close (even with the distance) and had such a great time!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with message you made in the last paragraph. It is always super important to not take the little things for granted because you never know when you will be able to do them again.
