Maya Garaway Week 5: The Chaotic College Search
10/18/21
If you have parents like mine, then you have already seen the start of the chaotic college search. In my family, we always tend to prepare for events far too soon in advance to the point that I have been able to tour two colleges already. To me, and I am sure many others, this process is something that is new and quite scary.
In my opinion, being asked to decide what you want to do with your life while you are in high school is not a fair question. Many people have no idea what they want to do and do not have enough experience in different fields to make a confident decision. We are only teenagers. We still have curfews and some of us can't even drive yet. How are we supposed to decide what we want for the future?
I am lucky enough to have a slight idea of what type of school I want to go to. As of right now, I am considering art schools or schools with a strong art program. Even with this narrowed down to a topic, there are still so many choices to make that it is overwhelming. There are questions about what type of art, the seriousness of an art program, what career to pursue, and if I am definite. This is a process that many people have gone through, but it is still nerve-racking to me. I know that I, along with everyone else, will be more than capable of making a decision. These questions about college will all be answered within a year, but the idea of having to make a decision like this is frightening to me.
Do you have an idea of what you want to major in or where you want to go for college? How do you think you will make that decision?
