Liam Meldung, Week 5 - Languages
English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, and so many other languages exist in the world and one can assume that most people only know a few.
I find that languages are crucial to our lives. We need them to communicate with one another, of course there are facial expressions and body movements that can help us communicate, but languages make what we are thinking flow more and be expressed better with almost complete understanding. The only issue here is that there are so many languages that we can’t communicate with everybody so easily.
I want to learn as many languages as I can over my lifetime, and be able to communicate with everybody in the best way possible. I already know English and Hebrew, and am learning Spanish, and some Portuguese, but I have so much more to learn. I would also like to learn how to speak French, Italian, Mandarin, and Japanese. Those are just a few on my list. I know that I can do it, and I know it will take time for me to get there.
I have a great role model, when it comes to learning languages. My great grandmother can speak 7 languages almost fluently. She can speak Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Hebrew, Russian, Yiddish, and a bit of Italian. She loves languages as much as I do, and every time I visit her we speak in Spanish and a bit in Portuguese just so I can practice as much as I can.
Of course learning so many languages will take a lot of time and a lot of effort, but I can be very patient and hardworking when I really want something.
What about you guys? What languages do you want to learn? Are you willing to spend a countless amount of time learning these languages?
I definitely agree with you that languages are very interesting. I used to take Spanish in school and I always liked it, and I tried teaching myself Greek, however, but that did not go so well.
ReplyDeleteI loved this! I also really like languages, and hope that after focusing on a few right now I can branch out and learn new ones like German and Arabic. It's really cool to see how different languages can be connected and help people connect as well.
