Leah Week 6 - My Bracelets

Some people may have noticed that I wear a whole selection of different multi-colored bracelets on my right wrist. The purpose of this, believe it or not, is not actually to stop my blood circulation, but rather because each one means something important to me.

The biggest one that I wear closest to my elbow is one that I made at summer camp, working as a counselor. It is important to me because it reminds me of the wonderful memories I shared with my campers and other counselors, as well as it has a Jewish symbol on it that represents my religion. I also wear a pink and blue bracelet that I made at camp.

I have three bracelets that are friendship bracelets with one of my best friends, Samantha Ostroff. One of them is a butterfly that changes based on the person’s mood, another is one that says salt, and the last is one that says cookies. Samantha has the other butterfly bracelet, one that says pepper, and the last that says milk. Samantha also gave me a bracelet that says my name on it. And lastly, I have a bracelet that is a little cat, Samantha has a unicorn, and Jessica Cohen has a cow.

I wear a white and silver bracelet with an infinity sign that was a gift from my mom. It reminds me that she always loves me. I also wear a colorful bracelet that has a picture of the continent of Africa on it. This is because it reminds me never to forget where I come from.

The last category of bracelets that I wear that are important to me are two bracelets from another significant person in my life. One was a gift sent when this person was away at camp (it was handmade), and the other was a birthday gift. The handmade bracelet is multicolored and the other bracelet is pink.

I never want to take these bracelets off permanently because they each mean something so significant to me. Together, they define who I am, and I like to always have a physical reminder of that.

What physical things do you have that have sentimental value to you?

Comments

  1. I also own things that mean a certain thing to me. When I receive jewelry from my grandma or mom that is passed down, I refer to that as jewelry that helps define me. It makes me the person I am today and I was grown up to wear it with pride and care.

  2. I do not have many objects or items that hold sentimental value to me. I tend to value the pictures or memories itself more. For that reason, I do tend to be very hesitant when I delete or get rid of any pictures, whether physical or digital.

  3. I love knowing the meaning behind all of your bracelets! I have a few things that are important to me, but I don't wear them often because they get in the way when I'm trying to work. I bet you've gotten used to them after so long, so you don't even notice them as a hindrance.
