Leah Week 5 - Why I Love to Dance
I have been dancing since I was a little child. Although I’ve stopped dancing and then picked it up again later, as well as switched between styles, I’ve always loved to dance.
Right now I dance once a week for two hours. The styles of dance that I take are ballet and jazz. When I was younger, I took modern and hip hop as well, but when I moved to America, I decided to only continue with jazz and ballet.
I love to dance because it is a fun and simple way to express emotions without needing to use words. I know this is cliche and probably something you’ve heard in a movie, but when I dance, it just feels like the rest of the world falls away. It’s just the way my body flows with the music, and in that moment, that’s all that matters. I may not be the best dancer, but I enjoy it, and that’s what counts.
Dance is also a useful stress reliever and a fun and easy way for me to fit exercise into my week. Sometimes life is so busy and stressful, we forget to just take a step back and breathe, do something for ourselves and our bodies. Dance provides this breath of fresh air for me.
I can’t imagine my life without some form of dance in it and I hope that no matter what, I will always be dancing. Even if that’s just on my own in my bedroom.
Do you dance? If not, what forms of exercise do you do and how does it benefit you?
I used to dance up until 8th grade. It was a lot of fun, although I quit because I did not have enough time for it. I did ballet, acro, and lyrical. My favorite was acro because I used to be a flexible individual. Now, I go to the gym to use time to relieve myself. It is important for everyone to have a strength that will relieve themselves.
