Hannah Shinder Week 6- The difference in the types of cokes

Many families have different viewpoints on how they think diets should be defined and portrayed. For example, some may say that sugar-free coke is better for you than diet coke. These different viewpoints used to always make it hard for me to choose what I should buy when I am food shopping at the grocery store.

When I walk into the grocery store, I am always overwhelmed with the tremendous amount of variety of the same products. I enter the soda aisle and see that most of the first section is the brand coke due to the companies with a store for where the product will be displayed. There is not just one type of coke, it also includes many different types of coke. For instance, you could buy diet coke, coke zero sugar, green coke, and regular coke.

Many might say, what is the difference between all of these, and it is hard for me to think differently. My mom is a doctor who is very familiar and involved with how to buy the best foods for our bodies. She usually buys green coke, but I used to not understand what the big difference is and why I kept on seeing green coke in my house and not the other types. I would always ask my mom, why this coke and not the others, and she would always respond with “it still going to be bad for you no matter what type of coke it is”. She would then back up her statement, but this is the best version and option to buy.

I want to be a nutritionist and I have been deeply looking into the nutrition facts and labels that are put on these cans. After having long conversations and debates with my mom and others, I have come to the realization that there is a huge difference between these different products that everyone should become familiar with. As a student who would like to become a nutritionist when I am older, I have formed an inner connection that pushes me to want others to understand what I have just encountered.

Discussion question: How do you differentiate the different types of coke for sale?

  1. This is a very interesting topic. I like Diet Coke just because I feel it tastes the best.

  2. I differentiate my favorite types of coke purely on taste because often the nutrition facts are too annoying and I just don't want to read them.

  4. I differentiate cokes by either if its diet coke or regular coca cola, because those are the only two cokes I will drink. Right now I drink diet coke because it has 0 sugar and 0 calories unlike regular coke.

  5. What makes the green coke better? I usually drink either diet coke or regular coke, depending on whether I need the actual sugar for a short burst of energy. I like diet better, though!
