Michael Hakim Week 4 - Growing Up
Have you ever sat back and wondered, wow, how am I already in eleventh grade and able to drive? Well, I have, and I do each and every day. Recently I have found that time has been going by extremely quickly, and the thought of this is crazy.
Reflecting on the previous years of my life, it always seems that the further along in life I get, the faster it goes by. It is honestly crazy to think that I am going to college in less than two years. COLLEGE! To anyone my age who is reading this, I ask you to let this sink in for a minute. Doesn't it feel like just yesterday that you were in middle school? For me, it does, for sure.
Thinking about growing up is scary. First off, the obvious fear of the unknown is prevalent. However, I often find myself obsessing over making sure I take advantage of my time as a teenager, as I know I only get it once. The thought of potentially thinking back on my high school days as an adult with regret scares me, and I always do everything in my power to ensure this doesn't happen.
Now, let's go back to the topic of time going by quickly. I know that a lot of people can relate to me on this, but it literally feels like it was just summer. For example, my three-week-long trip, which was somehow already over two months ago, feels like it was just yesterday. I just don't understand it. While it is fascinating, it really is frightening to think that I could be looking back on this very article in the summer of 2023 as a college student, thinking about how it all went by so quickly.
I feel that COVID-19 definitely played a part in this. When I think about last year, I consider it a bit of a lost year, one that didn't count. It was pretty much just lost time. I am so grateful that we are in school now, as it is much better and allows us to finally experience high school again.
Phew... that was a lot. I'm sorry for putting you through that existential article. However, I feel that this is something important to address. If there's anything all of this teaches you, it's that it is truly important to take advantage of your time, as one day, you will be looking back and thinking about how it all went by so fast.
Discussion question: How fast has time moved for you recently compared to other years?
