Ariella Green Week 4: Spam

Ariella Green Week 4: Spam

Don’t ya hate when you get spam messages? Every day I always receive at least one spam message either from iMessage, Gmail, or a regular old phone call. It is very annoying when you're expecting a message from an actual human about something important only to then scroll and see a standard spam message.  I regret the days that I joined a few rewards programs because I daily get texts from them that just cause a distraction and annoyance to my day.

For instance, yesterday I was expecting a text message from someone about a homework assignment. For the few seconds that I was away from my phone, it dinged. I thought "Wow, now I can see what this homework is about."  Sadly, the text message was not from my friend, but from Office Depot saying I should buy a printer because it is on sale. The annoying part is that I don't know how to unsubscribe from these companies, or I have tried and it just doesn't work too well. I find that spam texts are the worst form because when I get a text I suspect that’s from someone in my contacts trying to tell me something important.

Gmail was a great invention that allows you to get formal messages from people you work with, but it has become one of the biggest hotspots for spam. At the end of the day, my Gmail account gets filled with over fifty plus emails from spam accounts telling me to buy this, apply to this school, or read this about this person. These emails take up storage on my phone, and it takes over five minutes to scroll through all these emails to make sure that I can delete them.

I have noticed that I receive less spam phone calls and I wish I had a logical explanation, but it might be because I choose not to share my phone number with any unnecessary programs. I guess if I wanted to eradicate all of these spam messages I could just change my phone number, and never sign up for any more rewards programs.

Question: What kind of spam messages do you receive?

Comments

  1. For the past few months I've been getting spam calls once or twice every single day and I have no idea why this is happening. I know I'm not the only one too because I've noticed them calling my family really often lately as well.
