Adi Chaham week 6 - Gifts: Giving vs. Getting
Tonight as I was thinking of a blog idea I wasn’t sure what to write about so I decided to watch some TV and hoped to get inspiration as to what I should write about. As I was watching Dawson’s Creek (it’s a great show! You should definitely check it out!) I thought of the perfect idea.
Gifts.
In the episode I was watching it was Joey’s birthday and Dawson had given her a gift.
So who doesn’t love gifts? Probably no one but there are always strange people out there. I love gifts and presents. Everything about them is so fun. Personally, I love giving gifts! I honestly think it’s more fun than getting them. The whole journey of thinking about the perfect gift is so exhausting yet so fulfilling once finished. To be completely honest, as much as I love giving gifts, I usually end up getting my friends a visa gift card every time (but that's not the point). Usually, though, I get my family members a thoughtful gift.
Most of the time when you think of how much you love presents, you think of how you love getting the actual gift but, for me, my favorite part about receiving gifts is opening the bag, box, or envelope. I love that feeling when you're clueless about what the gift is and dying to know what's inside. Honestly, for me, after I open the gift the whole fun is over. Let’s not forget the awkward situation when you don’t wanna be rude so you quickly read the card and then move on to the present…. I know it's awkward right? But, that’s not the problem. The problem with me is that once I open the gift, I don’t know how to react. Does this happen to anyone else? Or just me? It’s like I completely forget how to say “OMG thank you” in a way that doesn’t sound like I'm completely lying. Also, you don’t wanna overdo your “omg, I love it” but at the same time, if you underdo it, then people will think you don’t like it. Overall, the opening of gifts when receiving them is exciting yet awkward.
So what's your favorite part about gifts? Do you like getting or receiving gifts more? Do you also find it awkward when you're opening a gift in front of the person who gave it to you?

ReplyDeleteI really like receiving gifts (who doesn't?), especially from those I either don't expect and from those I am closest to. To be honest though, I like giving more because it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I am lucky to be born in a healthy family, so I love giving back to those who aren't as lucky as me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to lie, I like receiving gifts rather than giving them! I think that getting a gift is so much more exciting. Giving a gift requires a lot of effort and thought, and sometimes it is way too hard, so I take too long to get one and the birthday or holiday has already passed. Of course giving to others is fun, seeing their faces when they open the present, they're either all happy, or all fake happy about what they got. Either way I still have fun with their reactions. Otherwise gifts, when they are for me, I get more excited for because they're for me! I have experienced that awkward moment when you're opening a present right in front of the person that gave it to me. If I'm not as excited for the present I think it shows more, but when I am somewhat excited for the present, I still sound fake happy, but I'm really not, I just don't know how to express my excitement as well as others can.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy receiving gifts, but I'm one of those people who LOVES to find the perfect gift for a loved one. Some of the people in my life don't appreciate that and would rather just get that gift card, but I do work hard to find special things for the people I care about who would appreciate it (I think I've already figured out what I'm getting for Dr. Restivo's holiday gift!). I actually get really sad when I can tell that the person doesn't love it as much as I'd hoped they would. Hmm. Okay, maybe I need to be a little bit less obsessed with the perfect gift.
ReplyDeletePS I can't believe Dawson's Creek is still available to stream! Joey was always my favorite!
