Adi Chaham week 5- Annoying Movie Habits

We all have that one thing that bothers us when we watch movies, whether it's people talking during a movie, people making “aww” or “oh no” or “omg” sounds during a movie, people on their phones during a movie, people eating popcorn during a movie with their mouth open or watching movies in different languages. Looking at this list of examples of things that get people bothered, I feel that for most, the one that bothers them the least is watching movies in different languages. I, on the other hand, am incapable of watching movies in different languages.

When I say “watching movies in different languages”, I am talking about when you are watching a movie in another language, and because you don’t understand, you change the language from original to English/the language you want it to be. Changing the language makes the voices not match up with the movement of the lips, which is something that bothers me very much.

A few days ago, I was scrolling through the top ten movies on netflix, and as I was looking for a movie to watch that night, I found a movie that interested me but was in a different language.  After seeing that it was in a different language, watching that movie was no longer an option.

The movie was called Isi & Ossi and it was in German. It was about a girl whose’ billionaire parents didn’t want her to go to culinary school rather wanted her to go to college. So the girl, Isi, decided to leave her home and get a fake boyfriend so that her parents would let her go to her culinary school. In return, the poor boy, who was her fake boyfriend, wanted 25,000 euros. Pretty interesting movie right?

At first glance, I knew that even though the movie sounds very interesting, I was not gonna watch it because its original language is not English and therefore, I wouldn’t enjoy the movie.

Now, of course, there is a simple solution to this… just leave the movie in its original language but put on subtitles in the language you speak.  But, if I wanted to read, I wouldn't watch a movie, I would read a book.

However, I ultimately decided I would give it a chance.

It took me four days to finish this not even two-hour movie and I have concluded that watching movies in different languages is just not my cup of tea.

What bothers you when watching movies? Do you have any good movie recommendations from Netflix?

Comments

  1. When I watch movies, it annoys me when the acting is bad and the dialogue is cliche. For movie recommendations, I don't have any specific recommendations.
