Lindsey Maschler Week 1: changes

Each school is different in its own way, with parts that are good, and some parts that are not so good. Within the past couple of years, I have been to three different schools: Pine Crest, pre-k through 8th grade, Grandview, for my freshman and sophomore year, and now I am at Donna Klein. Each school is similar, yet different. They obviously all have the same objectives: to teach students, yet how the schools go about that is not the same.

At Pine Crest, it was all about being able to push yourself through tests and memorization and having a lot of work, that some might argue is unnecessary. There was at least a test for any class 2 or 3 times a week. Whereas at Grandview, they believed that students learn best through projects and collaboration. They gave minimal to no tests because they believed it would not be beneficial. I had about 7 math tests, a couple of history and science tests, and not one English test my entire time there. I am still new to Donna Klein, so I do not know much yet, but what makes it different is you now have religion incorporated in your education.

I have learned a lot from having these experiences and realized that no matter where you go, not everything will be the way you expected it to be. Even though all of the schools are in the same town and have the same goals, the way they achieve the goals is vastly different. How many schools have you gone to?

  1. Ive been going to Donna Klein for my whole life. It is interesting to hear your perspective from going to many schools as I do not relate.
