Jack Yesner Week 2- Frozen in Time
Of the many things that I wish to have, almost all can be obtained with hard work or some money. However, there is one elusive thing that I could not obtain no matter how much I wish for it: time. Many of life’s problems result from not having enough time. Often, a lack of time forces a person to sacrifice some of the things they want to do for the things that they need to accomplish. But what if there was a solution to that problem? What if there was a device in which you could push a button to freeze time? Of course you would probably want the device and likely use it frequently, but would you really use it as much as you think?
If I were asked to have such a device, I would leap at the opportunity. Having such a device would make my life much easier, as I would no longer have to struggle about time constraints or limitations. Need to complete a long homework assignment? Freeze time until you are done. Need a break in class? Freeze time and take your break. Feeling tired? Freeze time and catch up on your sleep. Having such a device seems like a utopian reality. However, utopia is merely the cheerful facade of a dystopia. When time is frozen, everything is frozen. Clocks are frozen, the sun is frozen, animals are frozen, and, most importantly, people are frozen. As the people around us provide a majority of the joys in our lives, a world with them frozen would deprive us of the reason for staying in a frozen world. Therefore, the purpose of the device shifts. Instead of pushing the button to do everything you want to do, you would push the button to do everything you don’t want to do. And then, once you finish your individual, laborious tasks when time is frozen, you can use your time in the non-frozen world doing things you enjoy with the people you enjoy doing things with.
If a time-freezing device is made in the future, I would be first in line to purchase one. However, I personally would not use the device that often, as I would rather share the time I have in my life with others.
If you had a time-freezing device, what would you use it for? How often would you use it?

My thoughts on a time changing device changes from reading this. Although it is nice to have a time changing device in many situations, it is also not pleasurable to live in a frozen world. I would use this device to do laborious tasks on my own like studying for school, the act, daily naps, and work. I would use the device at most once a day for my busy afternoons wasted studying.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have this device. I often think about the concept of time and the restraints it puts on our lives. A time-freezing device would come in useful. I would use it mostly to help in times of need like as you said, to have unlimited time to do homework. I wouldn't use it otherwise and I wouldn't use it that often because I don't see any other reason that I would need to use it.
ReplyDeleteI would 100% use this for sleep. There just never seems to be enough time to get the sleep I need. Other than that, though, I think I'm good.
