Ben Nikpour Week 2- American Horror Story

I absolutely hate horror. Anything that has anything even remotely scary, I avoid at all costs. In 9th grade, all my friends bought tickets to six flags. That week, Six flags were holding an event called fright fest. As someone who hates anything scary, I had to, of course, cancel my tickets and not go to this great experience with my friends. My hate for horror runs in the family; my mom and I have the same feeling towards anything scary. So you can guess my response when someone told me to watch this “amazing” show called American Horror Story. This show was recommended to me at least a dozen times and each time I would give the same response: “I hate horror shows. I just can’t watch them.” Knowing me, I would not be able to sleep for months. I told myself not to watch it. This was until I met another person who was finally able to convince me otherwise.

The person I met told me that she also hates anything scary but to give the show a chance. Hesitantly, I gave in and started the show, but I couldn’t do it alone. Obviously, if I was going to watch the show I would need my mom to watch it with me. After a lot of convincing, I got her on board and we started the show. After just two weeks of watching the show, we are already four seasons into it. I can confidently say that American Horror Story is my favorite television show, after Scooby-Doo of course.

American Horror Story is like no other show on television. Despite the name and reputation of it, I don’t find it that scary. The show is broken down by season. Each season has almost nothing to do with the next. The only similarity between the seasons is the actors who come back season after season playing new and different characters. Season 1, also known as Murder House, has been my favorite season so far. Most people I know that watched the show also say that season 1 is their favorite. The concept behind Murder House is a family with past trauma moves to a new city for a fresh start. They move to a new home that was given the name “Murder House” by all the neighbors. You can predict what has gone on in that house by the name. The season follows the story of the family in the home with a major twist towards the end. I am obsessed with this show now and so are millions of other people. The show’s official Instagram has close to 3 million followers alone. Even in my most recent AP Land project, which was the rubric project, I used Murder House as an example showing you how obsessed I am with this spectacular show. I am now recommending this show to you just like the many people who recommended it to me. If you haven’t watched it yet, will you give it a chance?

  1. Like you, I absolutely don't like horror. There are a few here and there that are worth the nightmares, but not many; my brain imagines that the villains or events are real, and even though I know they aren't, I get jumpy! The first season of AHS was a good one, though. Did it freak me out? Yup. Did I enjoy it anyway? Definitely! I couldn't get into the show after that, though.

  2. When I was around 9 years old my siblings got into AHS, we went on a trip to LA and we were all staying in one large hotel room and they stayed up all night watching it and because I was too young they didn't let me watch it with them. All I could hear were the sounds from the show and I was terrified. (it was also around halloween season so that didn't help). Let's just say I never got into the show and probably won't ever.
