Liam Meldung, Week 1 - School Traffic!

We’re back to school, and all very happy about it, but there is one issue that I believe has been bothering almost everyone, everyday. In the mornings, and afternoons we struggle to get to our parking spots and leave school, because the traffic on campus is tremendous! There is so much going on no one knows how to control it. Cars are being made to go around the parking lot where the bridge is and then turn into carpool. This leaves the high school students trapped trying to go in and out of school.

In years prior to this one, the school never had this issue, so I thought of a few reasons why this traffic jam happens every morning and afternoon. My explanation is that there are a lot, and I mean a LOT, of new students entering Donna Klein this year. As a high school we went up from one hundred and thirty students to roughly one hundred and seventy. My younger sister, who’s in sixth grade, has been telling me how she has had twelve new kids join her grade, and there are still more coming. I believe, and I think many may agree, that this is most likely the main cause of the traffic that has affected most, if not all, of us this year.

This might not be the only reason. I also think that there needs to be a better system of dropping off and picking up one’s kids. My experience today when trying to leave school was not very pleasant. For some reason there were parents where the tennis courts were trying to get in line to pick up their kids. For the few of us that have the parking spots on the side of the tennis courts, there were parents blocking us in and we had no way of leaving. We were being blocked in and couldn’t do anything until traffic moved. Thank goodness for music!

Finally, I think that a big contributing factor is that it’s only the first week and a half of school. Everyone needs to get back into the habit of going to school, and we all know that the first week is always the craziest. Hopefully soon everything will mellow out and the whole drop-off and pick-up traffic will be resolved.

What does everyone else think of the situation? Is it affecting you as much as it is me?

Comments

  1. I too agree that the traffic is horrendous, and that it is almost impossible to leave school and or to get to school on time because of all the crowded traffic caused by all grades of DKJA, K-12th.

  2. I completely agree that the school traffic is annoying and that the school must find an alternative solution to the parents lining up next to the tennis courts, not allowing us, as students wanting to go home, to leave school.

  3. The traffic causes me to be late to Hebrew class, even while running to class. I now get to school 10 minutes early just in case of heavy traffic which helps.

  4. I agree with this, the traffic has been terrible! When I leave school, I have to wait about 10 minutes just for the cars to move.

  5. The traffic is a problem going to and leaving school. On some days you have to wait in the carpool line because it is the only way to exit.

  6. The traffic during the first week of school was horrendous! Getting into the building took forever, but that was nothing compared to the pick up line. I do not have a car yet, so my mom still has to pick me up from school if I don't get a ride. The line is so obnoxiously long. Even a month after the school year begun, the pick up traffic is terrible. Hopefully soon the pick up traffic line will be sorted out.
