Adi Chaham week 1 - Becoming A Mechanic

      Ever since I started driving, I told myself that when I get my own car, I would learn how to change a tire. Today was that day! 

    In my opinion, I think that everyone should learn some day in their lives how to change a tire. It's something valuable that you might need to use one day. So why not take 20 minutes out of your day to learn how to change a tire. Yep, only 20 minutes. I honestly thought that it would take longer. It's actually very simple. 

    First, you need to open your trunk and open the flap in your trunk. Inside you will see a tire along with some tools. Whoa! I know right! I didn’t know! I was very surprised to find out that inside my trunk, underneath the flap, there were tools and a tire, but then again, we learn new things everyday. The tools should consist of a square/triangular like object, this object is called a Jack.. yep like Jack Yesner, the boy in our class. This object helps lift up the car in order to take out the tire. Another tool is what is going to help you loosen the lug nuts or the circle things on the wheel. That's actually the first thing you're gonna do. 

    First, you're gonna loosen the lug nuts about halfway through. Then take the jack and place it under your car (you may have to loosen it or tighten it in order to fit under). Make sure it doesn't hit your car because you don't want it to scratch your car. I mean.. well duh. Who would want to scratch their own car?! 

    Then use the jack to raise your car until the tire is lifted from the ground, high enough for you to be able to start spinning it. Continue loosening the lug nuts all the way until they are out and take out the tire. Great job! You just took out your tire! 

    Now, just take the new tire from your trunk and put it into the tire area on the wheel. Next, put the lug nuts on the tire, and start screwing them until they reach halfway. Finally, lower your car using the jack, and screw the lug nuts all the way. And.. That's it! Great job! Now you know how to change a tire!

    I think changing a tire is a useful skill that people should know. It's used for a “just incase” type of scenario. Personally, I was very surprised to find out that it was this easy. I honestly thought it would be harder and take longer.

    When I went on a road trip a few weeks ago, we had a flat tire. It would have been so helpful to have known this information! If a situation like that comes up again, now I will know that there is a way to replace the tire without having to go to a mechanic.

  Ariella Green Week 7: The Airport      Don’t ya hate going to the airport?       I absolutely can not stand going to the airport. As I’m sure most of you know, I am very organized and like to plan out everything. When things don’t go according to the plan, it stresses me out.       Thursday morning, I assumed I would have an easy experience flying from PBI to JFK on JetBlue airlines.
